CASRO Seeks Comments on Draft Social Media Research Guidelines
CASRO's Social Media Research Task Force has drafted guidelines that provide an ethical framework for research work performed within the unique formats, behavior systems, terminologies and varied privacy expectations of the social media space. These Social Media Research Guidelines were written to satisfy several needs: to be consistent with the spirit and intent of existing laws; reflect the industry's ethical and professional principles set forth in the CASRO Code of Standards and Ethics; and be sufficiently broad and flexible to address both current and anticipated trends in social media. In preparing the draft guidelines, members of the Task Force had extensive discussions with many researchers doing work in all facets of data collection, research and reporting. We seek additional feedback from the industry and welcome you to review the guidelines and provide relevant commentary prior to the finalization of this document. The deadline for comments is Friday, September 9, 2011.
