"research game” development, social media monitoring for healthcare – these are
just a few of the many areas of expertise possessed by the "Researchers of the
Future” selected for a special panel at this year’s CASRO Annual Conference.
Their skills reflect the breadth of work being performed in today’s industry, but
it is their vision of what tomorrow may hold that conference attendees will
an open call for nominations, four "up and coming” professionals were chosen by
the CASRO Annual Conference Committee for their accomplishments and willingness
to not only think differently, but put their novel perceptions into action.
"We’re excited to hear the ideas and perspectives of such a
diverse and accomplished group,” commented Jake Katz, General Manager at
Ypulse Inc., who will moderate the session – an open and wide-ranging
discussion on what may lie ahead for businesses engaged in market intelligence.
"Our 'researchers of the future' will help the senior executives in the
audience understand how younger members of their teams can be tapped to translate
'how things work today' into 'how things will work in the future'."
Taking place at the Four Seasons Westlake Village near Los Angles, California,
the 38th CASRO Annual Conference begins with a welcome reception on
the evening of Monday, October 7. Sessions begin on the morning of October 8.
The "Researchers of the Future” session, scheduled for Thursday, October 10
from noon to 1 p.m., will conclude the event.

CEO & Founder, Research Through Gaming
is the founder of the world’s first and only company solely specializing in
using Games for Research and data gathering. Betty won the Ginny Valentine
Badge of Courage Award for Bravery in Research and Entrepreneurial Spirit in
2012. Her knowledge and skills cover graphic design and animation to
storyboarding, game design and development as well as research and analysis.
Prior to her market research career and launching RTG, Betty studied at the
University of the Arts in London and worked as an artist and clothing designer.
- According to her nomination, "Betty is a rare find. At
such a young age, she decided that she needed to rebel against traditional
research which had so many weaknesses that were taking so long to be improved.

Kyle Nel, Director of Lowe’s Innovation Labs, Lowe's Home
Kyle heads up the newly formed Innovation Labs. He most recently was Head of
International Insights for Lowe’s, where his team was
responsible for generating insights for the company’s international business
units, including trackers, segmentations, experiential research, ad testing,
etc. Previously Kyle worked
in Walmart’s Global Insights group and has a strong background in media and advertising
after serving as research director for Clear Channel Radio. He earned an MBA
from the AC Nielsen Center for Marketing Research at the University of
Wisconsin and a B.A. in Business Management from Brigham Young
University-Idaho. "Kyle provides fresh
perspectives on how client-side companies and research firms with diverse
knowledge sets can effectively collaborate to improve insights generation,”
noted a member of the committee.
Paquette, Executive Vice President, TV & Film, Vision Critical
Aaron has established an impressive career in entertainment research, including
work with primary and secondary, quantitative and qualitative, and television,
film and new media. Before joining Vision Critical in 2012, he served as SVP of
Client Services at Nielsen Entertainment, where he oversaw creative testing and
primary research for some of the company’s largest network and studio accounts.
Prior to joining Nielsen, Aaron ran the television practice at OTX. He also worked
on the client side at CBS and Sony Pictures Television. "Aaron is a front liner in the push into new data gathering and
analysis with his work in industries that are among the most demanding and
fast-moving,” commented a member of the committee.
Kathleen Petryna, Research Analyst, ORC International
Kathleen is on the Healthcare team at ORC
International, where she analyzes complex, detailed information gathered via a
wide array of research methodologies. She is involved in the execution and
reporting of qualitative projects featuring focus groups, in-person interviews,
telephonic-depth interviews, and online bulletin boards, as well as competitive
intelligence requests. She also performs social media monitoring to determine
client brand equity and drivers of online conversation. Kathleen earned a Master
of Science in Health & BioPharmaceutical Economics at Lehigh University. - According
to her nomination, "Kathleen has the unique experience of performing research
that integrates various methodologies traditionally treated as separate in the
world of market research, a skill that will increasingly become important in
the future. In an industry where we say ‘insight will be the driver of value’
Kathleen is already a leader at a very young age.”
