Duane Berlin, General Counsel, CASRO & AAPOR
Duane is a leading authority on legal issues affecting the survey research industry, having represented research companies for his entire 33-year career. Duane has served as legal counsel to CASRO for the past 13 years and is the principal author of CASRO’s Privacy Protection Program, which includes CASRO’s Model Forms of Survey Research Agreements and Contracts. He launched CASRO’s General Counsel and Privacy Officers Forum in 2003 and has served as a speaker, moderator, and leader of many CASRO Briefings, Workshops, and Conferences. In his work for CASRO he has submitted two legal briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court and has represented the industry and the association on many legal challenges relating principally to respondent confidentiality. Duane is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a member of the Board of Directors of The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at the University of Connecticut. Duane also currently provides private legal counsel to many leading research firms with respect to commercial, corporate and privacy matters and speaks frequently on legal and regulatory issues affecting the survey research industry.
Abby Devine, Director of Government and Public Affairs, CASRO
Abby works with CASRO General Counsel Duane Berlin, the association's GPA committee, and the CASRO team to advocate on behalf of CASRO members and the entire U.S. research industry. She also is working on CASRO’s U.S. Safe Harbor program. Abby’s background is in law, legislative and regulatory affairs, and public policy. Prior to joining CASRO, she was an Associate at Berkman, Henoch, Peterson, Peddy & Fenchel, P.C., a New York law firm. Abby earned a bachelor’s degree in international politics and economics from Middlebury College, and received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
Peter Milla, Market Research Industry Consultant
Peter is a consultant to the global research industry and is a consultant to CASRO. He has expertise in a wide range of information technology, market/survey research, data privacy and security subjects, applying expertise in information technology and market/survey research methods. He has extensive experience with all computer assisted survey information collection technologies. Peter is very active in market/survey research industry associations, having served on the Board of Directors of CASRO. He currently holds leadership roles in several industry workgroups and committees in the areas of technology, government affairs, ISO (quality standards) and Internet research.²
David Almy, Chief Executive Officer, Marketing Research Association
David has served as the CEO of the MRA since May of 2010. Prior to joining MRA, he was vice president of membership, marketing and communications for the National Air Transportation Association (NATA)for three years. Prior to his work at NATA,David was senior vice president of marketing and communications with the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), holding five positions of increasing responsibility with NBAA over 12 years. Prior to his association career, David was a speechwriter for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Edward R. Madigan after serving as Representative Madigan's press secretary in the U.S. House. He also has been a campaign manager and journalist. David received his Bachelor of Science degree in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He also holds a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University.
