8:30 a.m. Keynote Address: "The Seven Question Meeting"
Sponsored by CINT

The irony of living in a society overloaded with information is that we often feel less informed. Today's challenge is not managing the torrent of data, but applying the judgment to use it. Move from discovery to insight to delivery by applying seven questions that will help you avoid meaningless data and render real information to drive your business forward. These seven straightforward, immediately applicable questions bring a big-picture perspective to problems that often leave others buried in irrelevant details.

10:15 a.m. "The Innovator's Dilemma and the Market Research Industry"

Coates

Starting a business has never been easier, while sustaining and growing a business has never been more difficult. Providers large and small must continually challenge their own success, disrupt current revenue streams and reinvent themselves in order to not simply grow, but to merely survive. Despite suffering the slings and arrows of the great recession, the market research industry has in many instances prospered, led by impertinent upstarts powered by advances in both methods and technologies. While some view us as a stable, perhaps moribund industry, the reality is that the research industry is a dynamic ecosystem, creating vibrant new competitors, unseating long-standing incumbents and continually reshuffling industry players and rankings. Hear how research industry innovators, both past and present, have anticipated the winds of change, repositioned their offerings and raced to success.

  • Dan Coates, President, Youth Pulse, Inc.; session moderator
  • John Dick, CEO, CivicScience Inc.
  • Gian Fulgoni, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder comScore Inc.

8:30 a.m. Opening Remarks

9:00 a.m. Keynote Address: "Beyond What Consumers Can't or Won't Say"
Sponsored by Cambiar

Hill

Before a consumer's mind can render a fully conscious, cognitive, rational justification for a purchase choice, the decision has already been made via sensory impressions and an emotional response. To capture this true decision-making process, market research firms need to move beyond what people won't say, as well as what they can't say (over 95% of thought activity isn't fully conscious). How to do so will be revealed during this session by a pioneer in psycho-physiological market research. Comparative results from TV spot testing reveal what new research tools are hype and which ones warrant a serious look.

  • Dan Hill, President, Sensory Logic, Inc.; author, Emotionomics: Leveraging Emotions for Business Success; About Face: Ten Secrets to Emotionally Effective Advertising.

10:00 a.m. Break with Exhibitors: Book Signing, About Face: Ten Secrets to Emotionally Effective Advertising

10:30 a.m. "Finding True Ingenuity and the Future of Research"

Popper

We are lectured at conferences and in webinars and on the pages of bestsellers of the need to innovate. Innovate or die! (or at least be severely maimed). How do research firms identify emerging methodologies that are meaningful? Do you invest in R&D, partner, or copy and follow? In a marketplace blurred with new methodologies (some truly novel, some imagined), we'll hear from client-side researchers about how to assess and apply the ones that will truly have an impact.

  • Ari Popper, President, North America, Brainjuicer, session moderator
  • Bob Pankauskas, Director, Consumer Insights, The Allstate Insurance Co.
  • Roxana Strohmenger, Analyst, Forrester Research, Inc.

9:45 a.m. "Insurgent Thinking: The Right Approach to a Changing Environment Can Transform Your Business"
Sponsored by EFG

Miller

Voters are up in arms. Consumers are more ornery and difficult to engage than ever. Incumbent leaders in politics and business are under attack and on the defensive. What's happening? Insurgent rules are driving change today. These are the rules of successful revolutionaries and underdogs. Traditional incumbent market leaders have failed to change with change, much less keep ahead of it. No matter how long you've been an incumbent market leader, no matter how strong your market position, you are vulnerable to insurgent attack, because you're playing by an obsolete set of rules. Whether you are a start-up or just want to jump-start a slow, bureaucratic and defensive organization, you can benefit by learning and adopting the principles of insurgent strategy.
