| 8:45 a.m. | "Global Research in a Post-Imperial World"
The Global Middle Class is growing by 70 million people a year. By 2030, fully 93% of the world's middle class will be concentrated in emergent economies (World Bank estimate). The implications for the future shape and quantum of research expenditure are enormous. Yet just as this tipping point is being reached, the whole structure of the global research industry is shifting. We are at the end of the Imperial model, where European and American research companies stuck flags in maps; and at the beginning of the Mosaic model, where ideas, techniques, technologies and new companies are emerging at incredibly rapid rates all across the globe. This paper will examine the likely effects of these changes on the world in which we live and will include analyses and thoughts on micro-multinationals, the fluidity of research and insights labor, 24/7 real-time service, outsourcing and entrepreneurialism in the emerging world.
